HiFi Terms Explained

Learn essential audiophile terms to better understand what you’re hearing and make smarter system decisions.

What “clarity” means when you’re listening

In HiFi, “clarity” refers to how easily you can distinguish musical details—clean vocals, defined transients, and clear separation between instruments. A system with strong clarity avoids congestion and haze, especially during complex passages. Clarity is influenced by the entire playback chain, including the source, amplification, loudspeakers, and room acoustics. Understanding this term helps you better communicate what you’re hearing and evaluate system upgrades during auditions or demos.
